All of my acoustics were equipped with either the Fishman Matrix or Highlander iP-2 active pickup system.
Welp, I bought a new Martin D-18 and decided to try a K&K Pure Mini pickup after reading so many positive reviews.
Bottomline: The K&K Pure Mini ROCKS!!! I am now in the process of converting all of my acoustics to the K&K. In a nutshell, the K&K Pure Mini eliminates all piezo "quack" and sounds fantastic. And that's through a PA or tube amp with no outboard preamp!
The folks at K&K really got it right with the Pure Mini.

Had the pleasure of watching Tommy Emmanuel perform in Dallas early this year, and he said that all of his guitars are fitted with K & K pickups.

I'm another big fan of K&K. I use the mini with the phase/pre-amp. The simple, thumbwheel volume control is a a big plus, the phase switch helps to stop feedback and the pre-amp gives the signal a lot more presence and oomph. Great, systems. I've installed about a dozen of 'em.

I've heard great things about the K&K Mini though some say there's a bit of feedback at louder volumes. What is your experience gents?
Also, what would you recommend for a 12 string (JF30-12 specifically) - the mini or the larger (& older) Pure Western?

I guess it depends what you mean by "loud". I've never had an issues, but I've only used it at open mic venues, which I'm guessing would not be considered that loud.

I've had no issues with playing as loud as an O/M or small gig would require.
For a 12 String acoustic I'd give the K&K Pure Mini made especially for 12 Strings a try!

I have one on my D60. It sounds pretty natural but it's not my favorite pick up.
I actually prefer the blenders on my F65ce's because of the blending
options between mic & UST.
At 100% pick up setting, the K&K sounds more natural. But at 70% mic on the blender,
the blender shines. Problem is feed-back.

+1 for the K&K. Their preamps are great too - I have the smallest one and the Pure XLR (forget the names exactly) that runs on phantom power and both sound better than any others I've tried. Clean, natural sound just louder.
The nice thing is you don't need a preamp with these pickups - plenty of output for most mixers/P.A.s

I'm also a fan of the K&K mini pickups. I have one in my F-44 and another in my D-40. I generally just plug them straight into the amp. I also like to plug the F-44 into a preamp for direct recording as a slide guitar. Just makes a sweet sound, IMHO.
